What about video framerates?

Hey, this is a great site and well implemented.
One thing I would suggest:
Comparing the Canon 5dMKII and the Canon 7D, it says they both record HD video at the same resolution (1080p). While this is true, nothing is mentioned about the frame rates both cameras capture. It may not matter much to still photographers, but to filmmakers it can make or break the look of the film.
The 5DMKII records at 30p, or 30 frames per second. This is the frame rate that most digital cameras record at, as well as most television signals are broadcast in. It was developed to make use of the NTSC standard for efficient use of the bandwidth allowed to TV.
The 7D records at 30p as well as 24p, which is the frame rate that gives that "film look". 24 frames per second has been the standard for motion pictures using traditional celluloid. The 7D also can record at 60 frames per second, meaning it has the capability to produce very good looking slow motion.
These are factors that play heavily into filmmaker's camera buying decisions, and I think including them would make an excellent addition to your site.

happy I’m happy we have an opportunity to help filmmakers
Hey fultron89 - great point, we totally agree. I have a d90 and it has the CMOS wobble issue, which is another example of things we should be telling people about so they can make better decisions.

What are some other areas that are important to you as a filmmaker that we can tackle?

I'm not a filmmaker but it's very important to us that ultimately people can discover cameras that are right for them including filmmakers, pro photographers, grandmas and geeks.

We're working at adding more data so that we can produce better results and our next major release will provide search allowing you to say what is important to you and explore cameras that meet those goals.

If your interested be sure to follow us on twitter - we'll post updates when we add new features to our site.

    Thanks for the feedback!

happy I’m glad you browse your own forums! Don't see that too often...
    Hey, nice turnaround there ;-)

The wobble issue (rolling shutter) happens with every camera that uses a sensor instead of tape, it might be good to note in the specs, but I don't think there are major differences in its effect from model to model. That's something that the manufacturers will fix in time, for now it's something we have to deal with (with tripods and steadicams :-)

As a filmmaker, I think it would be awesome to have a source to compare video cameras as well as still/hybrids like the 7D. I realize right now Snapsort's mostly a tool to help consumers sort through the endless waves of point and shoots and DSLRs to find a decent one, but in the future it seems logical to tackle the consumer, prosumer, and professional video camera markets.

In film school, we're never really given the option to use whatever camera we want, just what the school has the budget for. So when we leave the world of school, more likely than not, we'll gravitate to those cameras out of experience, even though there could be something ten times better for half the price by then. Having the ability to directly look at what you're used to versus what your dream camera is really makes a difference.
I compared the Canon 7D to the Canon 1D Mk IV, and I was super surprised to find that your system put the 7D as the winner. granted, I don't know much about the Mk IV since there's not many videos online produced by it yet, but I had simply assumed that the next video capable dslr would be orders of magnitude better than the best right now.
    Thanks
    Jonathan

    happy I’m confident
    Thanks,

We're getting closer to those goals, in the next release you'll be able to discover cameras based on your needs and as we get better data we'll help rank cameras in a way that makes more sense. So that means you'll be able to explore cameras that do 1080p @24p, based on that we'll show you all the options you got and how they differ in other areas so you can find the right videographer SLR.
