cmos vs ccd

to snapsort, if cmos better than ccd so ,why Hasselblad H4D-200MS(40,000usd 200mg px),Leica S2(22,000 usd,37mg px), Mamiya(56 mg px), pentex 654d(10,000usd, 40mg px),Phase one & other medium formet dslr using ccd in their latest dslr?

  • Hi wahid. When you say 'better' I assume you are only considering image quality. Some other dimensions to consider are power consumption, cost to manufacture, response time, integration of image sensing along with image processing on the same circuit, etc.

    Also keep in mind that not all CCD sensors are created equal and not all CMOS sensors are created equal. If you spend $40,000 on a camera, you can be assured that you'll have better image quality than with a $600 consumer camera.

    Since there are more factors at play than simply whether a camera uses a CMOS or CCD sensor, I suggest you look to the DXOMark scores on the Specs page as the authoritative word on which cameras have the best quality image.
