Another wrong info on W570?
hey guys!! on your Sony DSC-W570 review the resolution is given as 12.5 MP, but Sony's website says it is 16.1 MP, can you pls explain?

Good catch, thanks!
Looks like we typed in 3608 as the horizontal resolution instead of 4608. I've updated our system, and it the fixed resolution should be on the site tomorrow. -

It is 7 months later and it still lists the wrong horizontal resolution and MP.
Can you confirm that the True Resolution is also this far below the listed MP? -

Thats a bit embarassing, sorry about that. I did attempt to fix the specs 7 mos ago, looks like something went wrong and I never followed up.
The specs now show that the Sony Cybershot W570's resolution is 4608x3456 (15.9MP). -

Matt, you also asked about true resolution. This is an estimated value based on some physics, the size of the sensor, and the camera's resolution.

Yea, I didn't find an article about how you guys actually calculate or measure the true resolution.
It would be a very interesting article, and serve to back up your data.
As is I assume the lens also is part of the calculation.
But you said the Camera's resolution was part of the calculation. And that didn't change when you adjusted the resolution. Is the resolution only used to determine the maximum resolution for the true resolution? (I.E. if the lens and sensor size would allow focusing 12MP, but the sensors max resolution is 9MP, then the true resolution would be 9MP)
Thanks for updating the product, thanks for the time you put in to responding to your users queries, and thanks for the excellent site. -

We've got an article here: http://snapsort.com/learn/sensor/true...
I linked to it above. It gives most of the info I think, but re-reading it I can see it is not as clear/concise as it could be.
The calculation estimates the maximum resolution the sensor could resolve based on its size, and then takes the smaller of that value and the camera's rated resolution.
According to this calculation, most point and shoots can only resolve 9.8MP, while most have advertised resolutions higher than this. Conversely, most DSLRs could theoretically resolve higher resolution than they attempt to.
Probably the lens comes into play at some point too, I've heard anecdotally that top 35mm lenses resolve at most 24MP.-
On the site, did you see the (i) icons beside the differences, they give you a blurb explaining the camera feature, and most link to a more indepth article.
